Purpose of the directory

The purpose of this directory is to compile every elements a Star Atlas user need to excel in his journey. We gladly invite you to also follow our Starting Guide that will explain you how to setup a wallet, buy ships and stake them to generate passive income.

Introduction

Star Atlas is an open-world, space exploration, grand strategy MMORPG set in a galactic universe, with play-and-earn mechanics and player ownership. Players pilot ships and engage in trade, commerce, and battle with other players over scarce resources. The team plans to build a AAA game on the Solana blockchain, a layer 1 blockchain protocol that can handle 50,000+ transactions per second.

In its grandest vision, the game aims to be:

  • A space-fantasy RPG with a real-money economy and NFT assets.
  • A grand strategy game with politics, trade routes, and economically productive territories.
  • A 24/7 virtual economy where players can come together in real-time to trade, form contracts, and engage in battle.
  • A fully immersive 3D world with film quality graphics powered by Unreal Engine’s Nanite that you can experience in VR.

In addition, a big part of Star Atlas’s appeal is the chance for players to have ownership in a video game, and to monetize their skills, passion, and time. Star Atlas is tantalizing to many players who dream of being able to make a living inside an immersive video game world.

- Key Features

  • Territory and Exploration. Star Atlas is a space and spatial game. Players start off at the corner of the map, and can begin scanning visible stars for celestial and terrestrial assets. These raw assets can be refined and then traded and sold. As they venture towards the center of the map, they get rewarded, but with reward comes risk — players can lose their hard-earned assets. It takes time to travel & transport goods in Star Atlas, which opens up markets for logistics, freight, and even infrastructure such as bridges.
  • A Robust Virtual Economy and Society. Star Atlas plans to offer a robust virtual economy: matters of cargo shipping, travel, managing fuel, and powering defenses become economic considerations for players. According to their whitepaper, players can earn in-game in a variety of roles. Here’s a selection: “CEO, Bounty Hunter, Repair, Freight, Rescue, Refiners, Miners, Managers’. Metaverse economies are looking more and more like real-world ones — from their economics paper: “Managers are responsible for making sure resources are used efficiently in order to create value and utility. Some manager-type roles include a Power Plant Manager and Salvage Operator”.
  • Star Atlas offers two main currencies, $ATLAS and $POLIS. $ATLAS, which is an inflatable currency intended for trading in-game assets, and $POLIS is a low-velocity store of value with a fixed supply (we’ve seen this model before in Axie Infinity’s $SLP and $AXS). While $ATLAS is earned (and spent) within the game through combat and exploration, $POLIS entitles players to ownership and management of space-cities. It also represents a financial stake in the game and governance rights over in-game issues like land tax rates.
  • Star Atlas aims to embody the blockchain not just in function, but in form as well. In its whitepaper, Star Atlas outlines the core of its gameplay: mining. Yes, you stake out claims on celestial and terrestrial assets, and then begin mining them. You do this by piloting an NFT ship. Any assets you create are traded using a decentralized exchange (Serum’s on-chain orderbook), which allows for Star Atlas to fund its development by potentially taking a cut on secondary sales, and secures the uniqueness of player assets by ensuring no assets can ever be duplicated or deleted.

Score

Are you curious about the Star Atlas mini-game? All Star Atlas users will have the chance to make money in this browser game before it is fully released on the Unreal5 engine. It will be released in stages. This manual provides an overview of SCORE's current state and its future road map.

A comprehensive metaverse's construction is a monumental task. It makes sense that the Star Atlas team believes they will need to invest at least $500 million in order to succeed. It will be years before people can finally enter the cockpit of a spacecraft.

However, these ships as well as other items are already being offered to players as part of the Galactic Asset Offering. The Star Atlas team intends to develop a browser game where you can utilise those ships to produce revenue in a few weeks to make sure they don't collect dust in the upcoming years!

It should be mentioned that even after the complete 3D game is released, this mini-game will continue to exist in parallel. Consequently, as a player, you will always be able to play the game using a browser and possibly on an older machine (or in the future also cell phone).

SCORE - Ship Commissions on Remote Expeditions is the cryptically named initial module for this browser mini-game. It is to be the very first, drastically condensed version of what Ship Missions will eventually become (called Tier 0 by Star Atlas). This first module is described as follows in the official roadmap: "Recruit your own ships into the fleet of your faction. To receive faction prizes, keep your ships stocked with food, fuel, ammunition, and toolkits. SCORE is expected to be released on December 9th, according to the current schedule (originally: 18th of November). Please take note that this is only the goal date and is not yet official.

For this Tier 0 version of ship missions—which is still an unfinished game—we also refer to it as Ship Staking within our community. But for the first time at least, you will be able to use your ships to earn ATLAS, the in-game money. Basically, you elect to let your faction use your ships. According to the historical context, the various factions are already engaged in conflict over control of the galaxy; by enrolling your ships, you are contributing. Your ship's classification (such as freighter or fighter) has no bearing at this point.

Your ship can take part in this battle as long as you give enough food, fuel, repair kits, and ammunition (without you having to do anything yourself). Through the Star Atlas marketplace, these materials will be sold for a price.

The estimated ROI on ships, according to Star Atlas CEO Michael Wagner, is over 100% per ship, per year net (after expenses). At least during the mini-opening game's phase. However, this could still alter or be modified as necessary.

More information on SCORE's mission and resource management was recently supplied by Michael:

  • The mission will continue to operate indefinitely as long as there are sufficient resources on hand to fuel, power, and maintain the mission loop. To balance your supplies over the entire fleet, you only need to periodically add the resources you utilised the most.
  • All ships have a variety of efficiency and flaws, which affect how much they cost to operate. However, because earnings are adjusted to take into account those variations, it has little effect on potential earnings. They will become more distinct as their mechanics become more complex.
  • Refilling the ship's resources will take interaction. The amount of time depends on the size of the ship. Larger ships have a longer range between replenishments.

- How much money can you make?

A important query for plenty of participants and investors! Michael Wagner, CEO of Star Atlas, recently indicated in an interview that he anticipates an annual return on investment of more than "100 percent" for each ship. Additionally, there were reports that the APR would be between 7 and 15 percent monthly. However, with the recent crypto crash that lead all the crypto currency to go on a down fall, we have reported that the annual return on investment is most likely to be under 60% a year. This is due to Atlas falling down in the last months (Currently pay the same amount of atlas but the currency "Atlas" is worth less).

Additionally, it is important to remember that earnings will be calculated using the VWAP, or "volume-weighted average price" of your ship. Let's define the VWAP first. The majority of the ships in the Galactic Asset Offering were sold in a variety of waves (or price points). The average sales price for each of these waves is known as the VWAP. Here's an illustration:

450 ships were available in the initial wave of the Fimbul ECOS Greenader and were priced at $8,200 USDC. 300 ships were available in the second wave and were priced at $9,185 USDC. This would leave us with the formula (450 x 8,200)+(300 x 9,185)/750 to determine the VWAP. Therefore, $8,594 USDC is our VWAP for the Greenader.

By placing your ships in the upcoming mini-game according to this number, you will acquire ATLAS. Remember that it is irrelevant if ships in a specific wave are unsold. It is based on total potential VWAP, not actually accomplished purchases, Wagner recently affirmed. essentially the complete weighted value of the sale of everything.

- Future plans for SCORE

Most likely, the first phase of the ship tasks in the mini-game (SCORE) will persist for a number of months. As of right now, only your ships will have an impact on your earnings; anything like sold clothing, charms, or NPCs will not. But when Tier 1 arrives, we hope to see something like this! This is now planned for the middle of 2022 and is described as follows:

"Players interact with the characters in the Mission Giver tale. Embrace a wide range of ship objectives for various ship role kinds. Launch missions with the rightly equipped ships to earn awards and experience points. Configure your ship with complete crew, component, and module builds to meet the minimum ship score ratings that are advised for various jobs. To advance your account-locked benefits, level up your role licences."

ShowRoom

Showroom is the first module of the Unreal Engine game that Star Atlas promised us. In the early development, we will have access at the a playable game that will allow us to discover the true potential of what Star Atlas is inspired to become in the next few years.

- Unreal Engine 5

The most recent version of Unreal Engine is called Unreal Engine 5. Unreal Engine 5's early access was announced in May 2021, and the complete version of UE5 is currently accessible.

The development of video games and virtual products is increasingly reliant on Unreal Engine (including technology for other industries like digital twins). Teams have the freedom to create big with UE5. Across all sectors, creators will be able to work together in real-time to provide users with stunning graphics and experiences.

DAO

In Star Atlas, a Decentralized Autonomous Corporation (DAC) is comparable to a guild. The team first used the word in their White Paper as a play on the acronym DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organisation). They changed the "O" to a "C" to stress that this game allows you to earn money, which implies that guild members also make money.

- Understand Star Atlas DAO

To understand the Star Atlas DAO, first we need to understand the macro framework of Star Atlas. The project works with two different tokens. The first is ATLAS, the transactional token of our ecosystem, which serves as in-game currency, and is responsible for providing liquidity to the game operations, allowing players to pay and receive value for the goods and services they provide inside the ecosystem. ATLAS will serve you in your metaverse activities, from allowing you to purchase the fleet that will defend your home worlds and friends to paying for contractors to build and provide the services you need to thrive in the galaxy. In addition, ATLAS has infinite use cases as necessary in-game currency, enabling you to be paid for your in-game activities and services to others. It is the lifeblood of the Star Atlas metaverse.

The second token is POLIS. If ATLAS corresponds to the pulsating life in the veins of the metaverse, POLIS is the brain that organizes and directs the limits of every organ in the metaverse body. The POLIS token’s leading utility is the expression of political rights inside the Star Atlas metaverse. It has a fixed supply of 360,000,000 tokens and allows players that lock them within the DAO Framework to accrue rewards in more POLIS and to vote on proposals that affect the fabric of the various layers of political governance inside the Star Atlas metaverse.

- Levels of power

This is the fundamental mission of the Star Atlas DAO: to create an engaging framework for those who love politics — and even more, the very metaverse of Star Atlas — to discuss and vote on proposals necessary for developing and controlling the galaxy’s many institutions.

The DAO jurisdiction extends to three different levels of power:

  • The Star Atlas DAO — The overarching DAO with the power to rule over in-game universal subjects, control the Star Atlas DAO’s treasury, and guide the direction of Star Atlas development in general.
  • Faction DAO — Controls the factions’ treasuries and political movements.
  • Regional DAO — Controls the local rules and governance of a stellar system.

Aside from the Star Atlas DAO, which is open to every holder of POLIS, the other DAOs require players to have localized commitments to participate in their politics. For example, only Ustur holders will be allowed to participate in the Ustur DAO, and only land owners of a particular stellar system will be entitled to vote on said system decisions.

The player guilds, or DACs, have a special place in Star Atlas. They will have their own unique set of web3 infrastructure to interact with members, and will likely participate in many of the external DAO structures, possibly even controlling entire regions in space.

- The POLIS locker

An interesting key feature of the Star Atlas DAO is the POLIS locker, which you can already access by clicking here. The locker is the fundamental piece of the DAO framework, and it emphasizes the utility and importance of POLIS governance powers.

Voting weight in the DAO — called “PVP” for POLIS voting power — is determined not only by the quantity of POLIS held but also by the amount of time it is locked. The POLIS locker allows a participant to lock POLIS for different time frames, generating a PVP multiplier in the Star Atlas DAO. This way, the community members focused on the long term wield more impact than a short-term participant, even if they are locking the same number of POLIS.

Star Atlas envision that voting members with a passion and long-term view of the game will not only be active players but overall will work as watchers and eventually builders of the broader vision for the Star Atlas metaverse.

- Participating in governance

An interesting key feature of the Star Atlas DAO is the POLIS locker, which you can already access by clicking here. The locker is the fundamental piece of the DAO framework, and it emphasizes the utility and importance of POLIS governance powers.

Star Atlas envision that voting members with a passion and long-term view of the game will not only be active players but overall will work as watchers and eventually builders of the broader vision for the Star Atlas metaverse.Another important feature of locking POLIS is accruing rewards to incentivize greater participation in governance. The DAO lockers will receive rewards in POLIS, allowing them to increase their political power or use their rewards however they see fit. It is likely in the future that participation in voting will be a core requirement and variable in determining total voting weight, as well.In the future, the Star Atlas DAO aims to introduce true political elements, allowing members to propose motions and vote on the universal decisions pertinent to the Star Atlas DAO jurisdiction. The other levels of governance will also be available as their relevant jurisdictions materialize in the galaxy. As the Star Atlas DAO matures, it is designed to become an immersive version of a political senate, with representations of its many layers in the form of planets, stellar systems, and seats of power across our metaverse. This will allow players interested in political careers to engage in discussions and political rulings that will shape the future of the metaverse of Star Atlas.

- Drafting the governing principles

In the near future, ATMTA will publish, on behalf of the Star Atlas DAO, a document that details how together we will ensure Star Atlas achieves sustainable decentralization and has the strong foundations of a player-run government. The document is intended to kick off a broader, iterative dialogue with the entire community.

In addition, as a community, we will draft a Star Atlas Constitution — a governing document for the social layers of the DAO. We will also shape the parameters of the Star Atlas Council — a set of elected representatives who will shepherd the proposal drafting and submission process.

- PIPs

Proposals for new legislation will require a POLIS Improvement Proposal (PIP) to provide information to the Star Atlas community about proposed new features, processes, or changes to the Star Atlas metaverse. PIPs are based on similar documents in other protocols such as Bitcoin’s BIPs and Ethereum’s EIPs, which are design documents that provide concise technical specifications and rationale for a feature.

PIP authors are responsible for building consensus within the community, documenting dissenting opinions, and shepherding the PIP through the on-chain voting process. PIPs are intended to be the primary method that community members will propose new features and provide feedback, and will be a prerequisite step before governance vote.

- Timing

ATMTA will soon circulate a draft version of PIP-1, which outlines the process of drafting, proposing, and seeing a PIP through the entire voting process. PIP-1 will quickly be followed by other PIPs that solidify the governance framework and administrative needs of the Star Atlas DAO.

The initial version of the DAO’s governance mechanism will be focused on POLIS locking and rewards, with ATLAS locking coming next, followed by live governance proposals.

- Areas of Star Atlas DAO governance

As the DAO matures, members will have the power to govern over a wide range of issues, activities, and development. These include:

  • Ecosystem development and interoperability
  • This could include everything from potential partnerships and integrations to game expansions
  • Metaverse economics
  • Power to set rewards, incentives, and rates of taxation
  • Treasury management (see below)
  • Game system design
  • In-game law establishment

Eventually, members will also get to vote on things like the rules regulating lower-tier DAOs, protocol upgrades, and emergency actions.

- The DAO Treasury

As part of the DAO’s mandate, the DAO imposes a tax — in the form of operational costs for activities, i.e. resource consumption — on all in-game economic activity. Since the launch of SCORE in December of 2021, the DAO treasury has received over 200 million ATLAS from the sale of in-game resources. The DAO also will receive revenue from taxes on future in-game activities.

ATMTA is currently safeguarding the DAO’s treasury, which will be deposited into a multisig, on-chain treasury once audits and security checks are complete.

The DAO has full control over its treasury. It could, through on-chain governance, vote to use the treasury funds for any number of purposes, including but not limited to:

  • Allocating funds to a developer for a specific game or ecosystem development
  • Allocating funds to the Star Atlas Foundation to provide essential services on behalf of the DAO
  • Metaverse economics
  • Paying service providers to facilitate a DAO-hosted event
  • Purchasing assets critical to the DAO’s operations
  • Executing growth campaigns to encourage new user adoption to the ecosystem

- A political game

In a metaverse where cooperation is key to achieving every major objective, everything starts and ends with politics. Those ready to embrace the representation of their world, guilds, and factions should be aware of facing one of the most exciting and complex political systems ever developed inside a game.

Our politicians will need to deal with the pressure of enormous DACs, a multilayered political ecosystem that consists of hundreds of different political entities, and the very responsibility of protecting and forwarding the interests of the citizens of your factions.

Our POLIS-powered politicians will need to raise their proposals and cast their votes while working with players with competing, and in some cases, diametrically opposed interests.

The path to power will be available to those who understand the role of POLIS.

One thing is clear even now: Those who rule the DAO, rule the galaxy.

- How to lock your POLIS

  • Step 1. Go to govern.staratlas.com
  • Step 2. Connect your wallet to see the POLIS balance
  • Step 3. Ensure you have at least 0.15 SOL for operation
  • Step 4. Select Lockers/Lock Tokens to open the locker page
  • Step 5. Select Lock Tokens to open the Locker Manager

Structures

On HOLD (Currently being redesigned by the Star Atlas Team)

Original statement:
The first item in any land owner's inventory is a Claim Stake. Required to claim ownership of any available land or space claim. The tier of the stake determines how wide and deep a developer can excavate the staked claim below. The stake also doubles as a radar to scan for oncoming threats.

Ressources

Not only must you provide your faction access to your ships, but you must also provide for their needs. It turns out that each ship needs 4 different resources to remain fully operational:

  • Fuel: Basic hydrogen fuel cell replenishment. Low energy density, can be improved with further refinement.
  • Ammunition: The most basic form of space-grade ballistic ammunition. Compatible with kinetic type slotted weaponry. Weak against energy shielding, effective against hull plating.
  • Toolkit: A rudimentary multi-function toolkit, effective at hull mending. Compatible with repair drones and crewed EVA tasking.
  • Food: The latest in molecular gastronomic science. Who knew corn could taste this good? Effective in addressing minor homeostatic crew deficiencies.

You are responsible for keeping your ships stocked as their supply of these resources slowly depletes. This implies that in order to keep your fleet prepared for battle, you will need to purchase more inventory on the Star Atlas Marketplace.

Collectibles

As an initiation into the metaverse of an entirely new genre of experiences, Star Atlas has been offering everyone an opportunity to be part of the journey. They release a series of 14 super-high-definition Meta-Posters blurs the line between the real and the virtual world, simultaneously bringing utility and rewards to both.

Factions

The Star Atlas world is divided into 3 different Factions, being the MUD Territory controlled by humankind, the ONI Region for all alien races, and the Ustur Sector controlled by sentient androids.

In short, all 3 factions are in a constant struggle for power, territories, and resources. As valuable citizens of Star Atlas, users have a role to play in the “intergalactic conflict”, enabling them to earn numerous rewards and prizes.

MUD

Manus Ultimus Divinum, The Last Divine Hand, a spacefaring faction of humans originating from their home planet of Earth. After uniting under a common cause inspired by a benevolent photoli scout, humans harnessed Earth’s resources to set off for the stars.

Under the contemporary leadership of Charon Gotti Jr., MUD Territory is established as the only legitimate human faction in the Council of Peace. Despite the dramatic losses in the Convergence War decades prior, MUD emerged as an industrial powerhouse in the region by securing diplomatic relations through fair trade with ONI and Ustur.

MUD controlled space provides proximity to raw materials that serve a core purpose in the component manufacturing process for distant astronautical travel and ballistics technology. Join MUD to ensure the perpetual fair and powerful leadership of humankind.

ONI

The ONI faction is a harmonious consortium of diverse species. The people of the Om sector, Segal, Akenat, and Neuno systems collectively set aside their differences in the hopes of a more bountiful life in space.

After the near total wartime extinction of the Sogmian race, the Mierese, Punaab and Photoli united firmly together under a strategic military pact to save their desperate ally. Through this pact, a breakthrough weapon of war was constructed. Before retaliation took hold to destroy the region’s life force, a truce was soon declared for the betterment of all factions and peace settled throughout.

The benefits of joining the ONI Region lie primarily in access to densely clustered raw materials within their controlled space. These materials are highly coveted in the crafting of advanced stealth and radar technologies lending to the discovery of even greater breakthroughs for all sentient life.

Atlas

ATLAS is the transactional currency used throughout the metaverse and the lubricant of the digital economy. It is often being compared to what is often called "in-game gold" in other games. ATLAS is used for virtually every transaction within the metaverse, and it will also be one of the primary financial reward mechanisms for its inhabitants.

Polis

POLIS is a governance token with two uses.

  • POLIS offers the holder tactical advantages of political dominance within the metaverse. Controlling a space area enables the taxation of other players as well as the establishment of regulations, laws, penalties, and fees within the micro-metropolis.
  • Externally, POLIS gives owners genuine governance rights over choices affecting long-term development. allowing for the pure decentralisation of game production in the coming years

It happens every Wednesday in the discord voice chat channel.

Friday Update

The team publishes a new medium article every Friday, this article put together a lore story white a brief summary of the updates that has been done during the week. The team also updates their roadmap (Notion) on a regular basis.

Creators of Star Atlas

The original idea was conceived by four key individuals around the end of 2020:

  • CEO Michael Wagner (Chief Executive Officer). In addition to Tokes Platform, EDEN, Multichain Ventures, Automata, and most recently Star Atlas, serial entrepreneur Michael has built numerous technological firms focusing on cutting-edge blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies. He has more than ten years of experience in capital markets research, is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), has more than twenty-four years of experience in gaming, and more than four years of leadership in technological development.
  • CRO Pablo Quiroga (Chief Revenue Officer). Over the past ten years, Pablo's worldwide business ecosystem has given rise to a number of successful businesses, giving him experience in supply chain management, strategic market penetration, and business analytics. Pablo plays a variety of roles in businesses like Vanguard Scientific Systems, Reconscious Medical, Fuelixir, and continues with Star Atlas. He has been a leader, a creator, and an investor. The blockchain community can benefit from Pablo's exposure to digital therapies for psychedelic mental health and plant-based supply chains. Blockchain, in Pablo's opinion, is the mycelium of the IT sector.
  • CPO Danny Floyd (Chief Product Officer). With EA Westwood Studios, Danny began his tech career working on Earth and Beyond, the first MMORPG set in space.
